There was a distinct chill in the air as I headed east, sailing single-handed, towards Fowey in mid-September, with a brisk northerly on the beam. Such Stuff was loving it. This was the end of a season which had so far involved hundreds of hours under engine, but very few under sail. We had brought her back from Greece at the start of the year after 16 years in the Mediterranean.
There were three reasons behind this change: to rid ourselves of the post-Brexit bureaucracy; to undertake all the major TLC which didn’t happen when the boat was 1,500 miles away; to be able to use her more often now I’m not working full-time (I refuse to admit to being retired!). This was my first real trip away since our arrival at her new home on a Helford river mooring at the end of July.
