Summer 2024

Intrepid 27-year-old sailor Ella Hibbert has made the difficult decision to delay her departure to sail solo around the Arctic circle until next year, but will instead depart this summer on a training expedition to Norway and Russia in preparation.

Ella Hibbert to sail to Norway and Russia in Arctic preparation

‘Yeva is just a couple of short weeks away from being ready – but to leave for the circumnavigation this year would mean to leave within the next month, and I haven’t yet had time to trial and test Yeva offshore and in heavy weather,’ Ella told Yachting Monthly. ‘To set sail for such an expedition without doing my due diligence of training could be a huge mistake. So, I’ve made the difficult decision to postpone the circumnavigation until next year. However, that doesn’t setting sail in June, to Norway and Russia. Our “mini” expedition this year will be fantastic training.’
