
Despite investments made to enhance energy efficiencyand reduce energy intensity, the construction sector has experienced a resurgence in energy consumption and CO2 emissions post the COVID-19 pandemic, reaching unprecedented levels, according to a report issued by the UN Environment Programme in 2022. This shows a growing disparity between the climate performance of the sector and the pathway towards decarbonisation by 2050. Given that the construction industry stands as a significant contributor to CO2 emissions, it is imperative to undertake decarbonisation efforts within the sector to align with the Net Zero objectives set for 2050.
The affordability of solar energy and its effectiveness in conserving energy has gained attention over the past few decades. Most importantly, the increasing use of technology in the field of solar energy is further enhancing its effectiveness. The International Energy Agency predicts that solar power is poised to emerge as the leading source of global electricity production by 2050, accounting for approximately 27% of the total electricity generated.
