THE DEMAND FOR ADVANCED DRIVER-ASSIST SYSTEMS IN AUTOMOTIVE DESIGN IS BECOMING INCREASINGLY PROMINENT, COMPELLING ENGINEERS TO EXPLORE INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS TO ADDRESS ONGOING CHALLENGES
ADAS: A UBIQUITOUS TECHNOLOGY FOR NEXT-GEN CONNECTED VEHICLES

THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY IS UNDERGOING a transformative journey. One of the most significant advancements that has occurred in recent times is vehicle connectivity—elevating them to intelligent and interactive entities. This technology has made vehicles more than just a means of transportation; it has turned them into intelligent, interactive machines. Modern vehicles’ Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are gaining a lot of popularity. Increasing preference for and demand for sophisticated safety measures. This is because they enhance safety, lower the likelihood of accidents, and make driving more comfortable. “Maturing over time, ADAS technology laid the foundation for autonomous driving, particularly in controlling longitudinal (braking and acceleration) and lateral (steering) driving dynamics. As ADAS features evolve through the integration of Connected and SDV (Software Defined Vehicle) technologies, the prospect of fully autonomous vehicles emerge, promising a novel driving experience. Yet, challenges arise in terms of costs, as integrating ADAS sensors and computation platforms elevates vehicle expenses in a competitive market. Additionally, regulatory and liability issues remain unsettled; legal frameworks lack clarity in cases of unexpected crashes during activated ADAS functions, with decisive verdicts still under discussion,” says Naveen Kalappa, Global Practice Head - E&E, Tata Technologies
