Like most overnight sensations, Jeremy Allen White had been plugging away for many years before seemingly being thrust into the spotlight. The long-time working actor was just shy of graduating high school when he was cast as Phillip “Lip” Gallagher on Shameless, playing the role on the cult favourite series for 11 seasons before getting an even bigger break in 2022 as the lead in the smash hit The Bear.

For two seasons of the critically acclaimed series, his role as Carmy, a tortured, fiery chef struggling to take over his brother’s sandwich shop, has captured the internet’s imagination, with memes, edits and articles dedicated to dissecting his sultry sex appeal. “When the show came out, the phones rang… it’s definitely shifted,” White, 32, told GQ in November 2022. “It was just like instant attention. I felt like that pretty girl who just hadn’t taken her glasses off yet.”
