MUCKING AROUND WITH MATES TURNED INTO A REAL OPPORTUNITY FOR THE AUSSIE ACTOR

Kick Gurry BROS IN ARMS

Living with a group of fellow Aussies in LA didn’t just provide Kick Gurry with a sense of camaraderie in a notoriously competitive city, it also served as the inspiration for a new comedy series he created, wrote and directed. Six-episode satire C*A*U*G*H*T is an off-the-wall romp starring Gurry and his former housemates, Ben O’Toole, Lincoln Younes and Alexander England, as four soldiers held hostage in a small, war-torn country who use the internet to make the world aware of their plight and become social media stars in the process.

“Los Angeles is a really difficult town for Australian actors to go to,” Gurry, 45, tells WHO. “There’s a billboard for every television show and movie you’re not in. It can be a soulless, emotional journey – and what I wanted to create over there with my house was a sanctuary from that.

“When the four of us were all living there, it was unreal. We’d laugh and trade acting stories – it’s really where [the show] was born, just trying to make each other laugh.”
