To the world she was Katy Perry, the global hitmaker whose "music was everywhere". But to Orlando Bloom, she was "Katheryn, this girl from Santa Barbara" and that's who he fell in love with.

Bloom, 47, opened up about what first drew him to the woman who he would propose to on Valentine's Day, 2019, in a heartfelt conversation on What Now? with Trevor Noah. Bloom elaborated that part of their deep investment in each other was an "understanding [of] where we came from, what we worked to do, what we had to do to get to where we got to".

Explaining how the singer, 39, was raised, Bloom noted that she came from the side of Santa Barbara that no-one knows "Parents, pastors, living on food stamps. We're not talking glamorous Montecito."
