RUNNING FOR SKYE

As Cameron Nugent pounds the pavements and roads stretching 150km from inner city Melbourne to Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, the strength and inner beauty of one woman will fill his heart and mind. On November 22, Cameron Nugent, 48, a writer and filmmaker, laced up his runners at the park bench in Prahran where he first shared sushi with Skye Santos, the woman who became his wife only five weeks after they first met in 2010.

Cameron then began a non-stop 24-hour fundraising solo run from the park and out through Melbourne’s western suburbs, heading for the coast and, eventually, Lorne on the Great Ocean Road.

It’s there he has spent the past eight years single-handedly building the bespoke home that he and Skye dreamed of making together. Sadly, Skye never saw the home completed. On July 8, 2015, she passed away after the breast cancer she’d battled years earlier returned. But Skye had already put plans in place to help her husband through his grief.
