The last few years have seen the Oscars plagued by dramas and scandals, from 2015’s #OscarsSoWhite to 2017’s erroneous announcement of La La Land as Best Picture over Moonlight, and who could forget Will Smith’s scene-stealing slap last year. But Hollywood seemed keen to put the past behind them, with the 95th annual Academy Awards having a resounding theme of inclusiveness and a tale of triumph for this year’s nominee underdogs.

First off the ranks was Best Supporting Actress and Actor, with Jamie Lee Curtis cheekily throwing shade at her ‘nepo baby status’ while taking out the former – after a three-horse race between herself, Angela Bassett and Kerry Condon – for her role in Everything Everywhere  All at Once. “My mother and my father were both nominated for Oscars in different categories – I just won an Oscar!” the 64-year-old ended her emotional speech.
