THE MUSICIAN REFLECTS ON HIS 40-YEAR CAREER BEFORE HEADING DOWN UNDER

It’s been more than 40 years since ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic burst onto the music scene with his first song, ‘My Bologna’ – a parody of The Knack’s classic ‘My Sharona’. But despite being in the business for so long, the 63-year-old is still a little dumbfounded he isn’t “a footnote in rock history”, where many comedy music artists end up.

“Historically, a lot of people who did funny songs, they might have one fluke hit and then you never hear from them again,” he explains to WHO. “And all the people in the early ’80s told me, ‘Oh, you’re funny, your stuff is brilliant. But we want to sign an artist who is going to be around for a while.’ So the irony of my career is, here I still am!”
