LIKE SEX AND THE CITY'S CHARLOTTE, I discovered sex toys reluctantly. Growing up in a strict household, sensual self-exploration wasn't discussed, much less encouraged. I was content to keep my hands still until my sophomore year of college when a tragic game of Never Have I Ever revealed to a group of close friends that I'd never masturbated. (I was the only one). Back then, it had been a point of pride something I didn't need to do because my sex life was already satisfying (it wasn't).
