Wowed by a list of the world's top 20 most famous paintings, stitcher Grace Perez decided she must own one for herself and so set herself the challenge of recreating a masterpiece in cross stitch. And now she is the proud owner of three works of art!
Grace, an accountant from Manila in the Philippines who has been stitching for decades, began with Girl with a Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer. "While it would have been much easier to hang a printed reproduction of this piece, where is the fun in that?" says Grace. "I found it more fulfilling stitching it as it gave me a sense of being at one with the artist, of being transported to that time and place when Vermeer was working on it back in 1665!"
