THE DISARMING CHARM of R&B is known to all but mastered only by a very select few. In those elite ranks stand brb., the Singaporean trinity composed of Auzaie Zie, Clarence Liew Oliveiro and Marc Lian, that, since debuting in 2018, has imprinted on the ether its brand of velvety, meltin-eardrums, pop-accented R&B with a winkingly eclectic twinkle. The group's International appeal and beyond-impressive streaming numbers are also all the more admirable and exemplary, because of its status as an independent act.
Theirs is a story of overcoming the odds by making the smoothest, most exquisitely simmering cuts this side of pop - and knowing how to make the world beyond Singapore take notice of it.
Zie and Marc, take it away.
How does it feel to consistently release singles that make an impact?
MARC: Thanks. That's very flattering. More than anything, we're very thankful. We feel lucky and blessed that it keeps happening, especially since it's not very common.
ZIE: Sometimes, we just forget about numbers. As a band, the day-one goal has always been to keep making music that we're proud of. Every now and then, our manager will inform us that a song is doing numbers, but we see it as a humble reminder that our music is connecting with people. Numbers aren't something we're chasing after.
MARC: In our early days, I was very conscious about numbers. These days, I don't check them at all. Now, we just leave it to the universe and focus on the music.
