The Balancing ACT

Balanced Life

|

February 2025

We all hold both the feminine and the masculine within us. Taking time to reflect on which dominant energies you embody and how you can tap into their opposites - can be a powerful way to cultivate balance between the two.

The Balancing ACT

Masculine and feminine energy are terms often discussed with peers and friends but frequently misunderstood, confined to outdated stereotypes or gender roles. These energies represent deeper spiritual and psychological principles that have long shaped our understanding of human behaviour and consciousness. So, what do these energies truly represent?

BEYOND THE STEREOTYPES

In the world of psychotherapy, mental health conditions are treated with verbal communication and interaction to help patients understand and work through their thoughts, feelings and behaviours. 'Masculine' and 'feminine' energies refer to psychological aspects of a person.

“To provide non-gendered terms, we might refer to the principles of Logos and Eros: Logos being the masculine, and Eros being feminine,” says Vasintha Pather, a psychotherapist and organisational development consultant. She explains that these are not terms referring to men and women, but concepts referencing spheres of consciousness expressed in any gender, and either could be dominant in a person.

Drawing from Carl Jung's work, Vasintha describes Logos as clear thinking, making decisions, and setting boundaries, while Eros is about emotional depth, intuition and connection. These energies go beyond just these qualities - they represent broader experiences that can't be fully captured by scientific definitions.
