The pull of family is powerful, even from a continent away. A Minnesotan-turned-Chilean built a secluded vacation retreat in Luck, Wisconsin (about 70 miles northeast of the Twin Cities), so that she and her siblings can reunite and keep up a long tradition: For years, their parents had a cabin on the same property.
Lake house 2.0 echoes the homeowner's ski resort in Chile. The Nordic chalet style would fit any snowy slope like a glove (or a boot), while blocks of bold color-such as the resort's signature yellow-add a South American vibe to the calm decor. "I like pushing my clients to incorporate color into their homes, especially when it's a second home, which makes it easier to take the risk," says interior designer Gabriela LaBoy of O'Hara Interiors in Minneapolis and Austin, Texas. The result weds Scandi and the Andes.
