What lengths will someone go to escape the demons of their past? That’s just one of the questions being asked in the new psychological thriller series The Clearing.

When a young local girl goes missing, Freya (played by Teresa Palmer) is trigged by memories of her own traumatic childhood growing up in The Kindred, a female-led cult spearheaded by Adrienne (Miranda Otto). 

Co-starring Guy Pearce, Claudia Karvan, Doris Younane and Gary Sweet, the anticipated series, which premieres this week, is based on the 2019 bestselling crime novel In the Clearing by J.P. Pomare.

The book itself was inspired by the darkness of real-life cults both around the world and in Australia, including Anne HamiltonByrne’s Victorian doomsday following The Family.
