HOSTILITY WITH HER SISTER-IN-LAW HAS REACHED FEVER PITCH

On the surface, the Danish royals seemed to be one big, happy family as they gathered to celebrate Princess Mary’s nephew, Count Henrik of Monpezat’s confirmation ceremony on May 18.

But behind the scenes, New Idea’s sources reveal the Aussie-born queen-in-waiting was “extremely nervous” in the lead-up to the reunion with her in-laws, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie, and “even shed some tears”.

Tensions boiled over late last year when Mary’s mother-in-law, Queen Margrethe II, made the shock decision to strip Joachim’s four children of their prince and princess titles. The move infuriated Joachim, 53, and Marie, 47. Although the decision wasn’t directly made by Mary or her husband, Prince Frederik, the royal couple backed the Queen’s plan “to futureproof ” the monarchy.
