NEW AUSSIE EARTHQUAKE STRIKES!

Residents in Victoria were shaken from their sleep last week when a 3.8 magnitude earthquake struck Sunbury, in the state’s south, shortly before midnight on Monday, May 29.

According to the Seismology Research Centre, the tremor registered a depth of 3 km. It has been dubbed the largest earthquake within 40 km of Melbourne in 120 years.

More than 22,000 people contacted Geoscience Australia to report they felt shaking, some as far north as Bendigo and south as Hobart. Those who woke to the earthquake, which hit at 11.41pm, took to social media to share their experiences, describing a whooshing noise followed by a small boom.

“It was like a freight train ran over the roof. I Couldn’t figure it out. I thought it was strong wind,” said Muhib Sumon, who was in Tarneit, Vic.
