Crystal Palace No.10 Ebere shone in the Premier League spotlight last term, doing enough to earn a spot in Gareth Southgate’s 26man party for the tournament in Germany.

Whether the 25-year-old gets any minutes in Euro 24 remains to be seen – England launch their campaign against Serbia tonight – but bagging a berth against stringent competition has already delighted the whole Eze family. They have witnessed his route to the topflight via the disappointments of being released by Arsenal and Millwall in his teens.

Eventually Greenwich-born Ebere, whose parents hail from Nigeria, made his name at Championship outfit QPR before moving up to the Premier League Eagles for £20m in 2020.

Older sibling Ikechi told The NLP: “We are extremely proud as a family to see where he has got to from where we grew up in south London. It puts it in perspective – it’s a huge achievement.
