LEWIS HAMILTON is set to drive a Ferrari Formula One car for the first time in January ahead of his debut season with the Italian team.
The seven-time world champion turns 40 on January 7 and will not have to wait much longer than that to get his first experience of Scuderia machinery.
It is understood Ferrari plan to run him in their 2022 car, most likely at their Fiorano test track, to help him acclimatise to his new surroundings run.
They had hoped to Hamilton at the post-season test in Abu Dhabi next month, but his Mercedes commitments mean that will not be possible.
Still, his new team principal Frederic Vasseur feels the Briton will have plenty of time to get used to how Ferrari work before the season begins in March.
