Military parade for Putin as he lands in Vietnam

VLADIMIR Putin jetted into Vietnam early yesterday as the dictator continued a whistle-stop tour of his few remaining allies.

The Russian President flew into the Vietnamese capital Hanoi on the second stop of an East Asian tour after staying in North Korea for just one night.

As with his lavish red carpet treatment in Pyongyang, Vietnamese President To Lam was also full of praise for his Russian counterpart, congratulating the despot on his recent re-election.

He said: "Congratulations to our comrade for receiving overwhelming support during the recent presidential election, underlining the confidence of the Russian people."

Standing on the red carpet, Putin responded by saying strengthening a strategic partnership with the southeast Asian country was one of the Kremlin's priorities.
