Protesters call for trade ban to stop hunts whale

Protesters holding placards stood peacefully outside the Foreign Office yesterday afternoon to insist the animals are protected.

The islands, 200 miles north of Scotland, exported over £1.1billion of fish to Britain last year, compared with just £33million of exports there from the UK in the same period.

TV host Megan McCubbin and green tycoon Dale Vince are among those calling for trade sanctions.

Ecotricity boss Dale said: “The annual slaughter of whales and dolphins in the Faroe Islands is a crime against nature.

Abuse

“Nations that trade with the Faroese should use that as leverage to bring this awful abuse to an end.

“We have a large trade surplus with the islands – most Britons oppose the senseless slaughter of marine life and would surely support trade sanctions to bring it to an end.”
