PRINCE Harry's immediate decision to fly back to be by his ailing father's side after his cancer diagnosis could signal new hope for this very fractured family.
Ever since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex quit their royal roles in favour of a new life in the United States, an ever-deepening hole has emerged at the heart of the monarchy.
Harry's insistence on airing his grievances against his loved ones to a global audience of millions caused further damage, his relationship with the King and Prince William seemingly disintegrated beyond repair.
The Duke's hurtful statements in devastating memoir Spare, labelling his father an "old man", brother as physically abusive, and casting Queen Camilla as a "wicked stepmother", convinced those at the heart of The Firm that there would be no way back for Harry.
But now, as the King enters a period of uncertainty with his cancer diagnosis, it is clear new opportunities to wade through the wreckage may present themselves to all parties.
Sources close to the Duke of Sussex have repeatedly stressed to me Harry's desire to repair relations and find common ground with those he has undoubtedly caused suffering to.
