IT WOULD be ridiculous to replace Gary Lineker with just another presenter.
Whatever you think of Lineker, he has been a brilliant, super-slick host for Match of the Day.
If the BBC are going to carry on with the same format of presenter and two pundits, they might just as well stick with Lineker, who is a master of his craft.
Surely now comes a change of direction and a new-look show for a new generation.
It's boring to hear people talk about Match of the Day being an institution and how we should not change it.
That is such a lazy argument presented by traditionalists who are afraid of change. Sadly, it comes to us all at some point.
The BBC should find a mix of highlights, analysis and entertainment for a Saturday night.
I enjoy Match of the Day 2 on a Sunday because Mark Chapman asks different questions, chats to the pundits and gets good insight.
Chapman would be a terrific choice to be in the chair on a Saturday but I hope the BBC also look to expand the show beyond the current format.
