THE alleged terror plot at a Taylor Swift gig was in its advanced stages before it was foiled, the CIA has claimed.

And deputy director David Cohen said tens of thousands of fans could have been killed if the teenage suspect had carried out his mission.

Three sold-out shows at Vienna's Ernst Happel Stadion were called off this month after bomb-making equipment and chemicals were found at the home of the 19-year-old alleged Islamic State fanatic.

He was arrested along with two others and is suspected of planning to massacre fans outside the gig.
