CHARLES III was formally proclaimed King yesterday as he declared the day of the Queen’s funeral will be a bank holiday.
The state funeral will take place at 11am on Monday, September 19, at London’s Westminster Abbey, right.
The holiday confirmation came as the King approved an order at a meeting of the Accession Council where he was officially declared head of state.
Charles became King immediately after the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II, but the historic meeting formally confirmed his role.
Queen Consort Camilla – who the King called his “beloved wife” – and Prince William looked on as the monarch vowed to follow the Queen’s “inspiring example” at the Accession Ceremony at St James’ Palace, London, which was televised for the first time. Making his own declaration, the King said it was his “most sorrowful duty” to announce the death of his mother.
