The Three Lions won 4-0 but they hardly roared against a European minnow and the entertainment on offer in the lively resort town of St Julian's was more attractive for the tourists.
But England return to the island in the Mediterranean now with a country back in love with their team after three tournaments that captured the imagination of the nation.
There has been a reconnect with the supporters and while tonight's game should be routine, even without their Manchester City stars who are not in contention after their Treble triumph, the fans are unlikely to head for the pubs and clubs early again.
