SIR ALASTAIR COOK has spoken of the reassurance that Ben Stokes can take into the Ashes knowing he can turn to England great Jimmy Anderson.
The pace ace, who is 41 at the end of next month, is the world's leading Test fast bowler with 685 wickets.
Anderson is preparing for his 10th Ashes series, which starts at Edgbaston on Friday.
And former England captain Cook (above) said: "He's absolutely crucial. Ben Stokes can throw him the ball and just know he can attack from the start.
"Having that kind of reassurance is easier said than done but Jimmy gives that to the captain."
Anderson has also been hailed as England's king pin by Michael Vaughan and Joe Root (inset bottom), two former England skippers, ahead of facing Australia.
Vaughan (inset top), who famously led England to Ashes glory in 2005, said: "Jimmy could cause the Aussies problems with his eyes shut.
"He has grooved his skill through repetition and hard work and he will deliver what the captain wants. That is so valuable."
