BEN STOKES accused Australia of forsaking the spirit of cricket as an Ashes storm erupted and turned hallowed Lord's into a raging bear pit.
Fuelled by righteous anger after Jonny Bairstow's controversial dismissal, Stokes' breathtaking 155 was not enough to prevent England from going down to a bitter 43-run defeat in the second Test.
Bairstow was given out after wandering from his crease at the end of Cameron Green's over, believing the ball was dead, when wicketkeeper Alex Carey threw down the stumps.
But umpire Ahsan Raza had not called 'over' and when third umpire Marais Erasmus upheld the Aussies' appeal, skipper Pat Cummins refused to withdraw it.
