Verstappen comes from ninth on grid to win again in Florida

- DANIEL MOXON

MIAMI TWICE

HE really can win from anywhere.
Max Verstappen executed his Miami Grand Prix strategy to perfection for the second year running to crush Sergio Perez’s dreams of leading the championship.

In doing so, he became the first man to win a Formula One race from ninth on the grid since Niki Lauda in 1984.

On a different strategy to Perez, he made sure he was on faster rubber at the end to reel in his Red Bull teammate and avoid being leapfrogged in the standings.

Both of them stayed out of trouble – as did everyone else, with all 20 drivers finishing a race of no yellow flags or safety cars. “I could stay out really long on the hard tyres and that’s where we made the difference today,” explained the Dutchman.
