THE days are wearing on in an increasingly bitter battle between junior doctors and the government over pay - as thousands of medics continue to stage walkouts at hospitals across the country.
Junior doctors make up almost half the NHS medical workforce. Of those, there are more than 60,000 eligible to strike, threatening to leave hospitals even more short-staffed than usual at a time of exceptionally high demand.
Greater Manchester's NHS, however, appears to be relatively stable as the strikes continue into today, the M.E.N. understands.
Multiple senior sources across the region have confirmed that enough consultants have been available to cover the majority of shifts, despite worries of the strikes coinciding with Easter holiday annual leave.
An A&E consultant in Greater Manchester said: "It has been challenging really because it has been really busy in (the A&E) department.
