Dwindling help for heroes as crisis bites

THE number of people donating to military charities has plummeted by more than a million in just five years.

And it has sparked fears they won’t be able to cope if Britain becomes embroiled in another war.

The shocking finding has been revealed by the British Limbless Ex-Servicemen’s Association, which provides services such as prosthetic limbs and financial support.

More than 500 troops suffered at least one amputation in two decades of fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.

But the withdrawal from Helmand Province in 2021 proved a fundraising disaster.

“Over the past five years the public has become increasingly disconnected in terms of being a conduit to help support serving and former members of the Armed Forces,” said Blesma chairman Lt Gen Edward Davis, a former governor of Gibraltar.
