HC Seeks Reply on Tahir Hussain Bail Plea
The Business Guardian
|June 11, 2026
The Delhi High Court has sought a response from the Delhi Police on a bail appeal filed by former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Tahir Hussain in connection with the larger conspiracy case related to the 2020 Northeast Delhi riots.
A division bench issued notice to the Delhi Police and directed it to file its response to Hussain’s plea challenging the trial court’s order denying him bail. The matter has been listed for further hearing after the police submit their reply.
Hussain is one of the accused in the conspiracy case being investigated under the stringent provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The prosecution has alleged that the violence that erupted in Northeast Delhi in February 2020 was the result of a pre-planned conspiracy and that Hussain played a key role in the events leading to the riots.
The riots, which broke out amid protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), claimed more than 50 lives and left hundreds injured. Large-scale damage to homes, shops, religious places, and public property was also reported during the violence.
