On November 19, a civil judge passed an ex parte order for a survey of the mosque by an advocate commissioner after taking note of a claim of the Hindu side that the mosque was built by Mughal emperor Babur in 1526 after demolishing a temple. Violence erupted between protestors and police personnel on November 24 after a team of surveyors arrived in Chandausi town to conduct a second survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid, after the initial survey on November 19.
