As the New Year begins, Uttar Pradesh is gripped by a relentless cold wave, disrupting daily life and forcing authorities to take preventive measures.
The sun remained hidden throughout the day and the maximum temperature in 50 districts dropped by 5 degrees Celsius. On Wednesday, icy winds blowing at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour further intensified the cold.
In response to the freezing conditions, the state government has announced the closure of schools up to Class VIII until January 14.
The cold wave has spread across 47 districts, and dense fog has engulfed 40 districts, reducing visibility to a mere 100 meters.
