A DEVONPORT-BASED frigate has downed two drones launched by the Iran-backed Houthi group in the latest hostile incident in the Red Sea.
Defence Secretary Grant Shapps said the incident saw Royal Navy frigate HMS Richmond use its Sea Ceptor missiles to repel the attack.
United States Central Command said a total of 15 drones were shot down by coalition vessels and aircraft during attacks in Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Mr Shapps said: “The UK and our allies will continue to take the action necessary to save lives and protect freedom of navigation.”
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) said the Type 23 frigate and international allies “fully repelled” a Houthi drone attack with no injuries or damage sustained.
