Five things to look out for against Torquay

It is three weeks since the Pilgrims started pre-season training under new head coach Wayne Rooney and during that time they have had some warm-weather training in Marbella on Spain’s Costa del Sol, as well as working away at Harper’s Park.

Argyle’s preparations for the new season will continue against Devon neighbours Torquay United at a sold-out Plainmoor today (3pm). Herald Sport reporter Chris Errington has picked out five things to look out for.

THE ICEMAN COMETH

Subject to international clearance, Argyle’s latest summer signing is likely to make his first appearance for the club against Torquay. Victor Palsson has arrived on a permanent contract after leaving relegated Belgian Pro League club Eupen earlier this week.

The 33-year-old is following in the footsteps of Bjarni Gudjonsson (2004-2005) and Kari Arnason (2009-2011) as being an Iceland international who has joined the Pilgrims.

Palsson, an experienced rightsided defender or holding midfielder, has previously worked under Rooney at MLS side DC United in the United States so he should already have a good understanding of how the Pilgrims’ boss will want his side to play.
