C WEST DIVISION
PAIGNTON 2nd XI ousted Ivybridge from top spot in the C Division by inflicting an eight-wicket defeat on them in the top-ofthe-table tussle at Queen’s Park.
Paignton (128pts) eased past Cornwood (117) into pole position on the strength of this win. Cornwood 2nd XI sit third on 106 points.
Harry Solomon (65no) and Adam Huxtable (40) were Ivybridge’s principal run makers. Jack Harman (3-20) and George Woodcock (3-41) dominated Paignton’s bowling return.
Neil Hancock, the former Devon allrounder and captain, then blasted Paignton to victory with an unbeaten 86.
Sam Simcox (39) and Hancock took Paignton’s reply to 104 for two. Ollie Woodcock (33no) went the rest of the way with Hancock, who finished the game by hitting Huxtable for six, four and six again.
CORNWOOD kept the top two in their sights by beating bottom side Sandford 2nd XI by 61 runs.
Robin Dart, the Cornwood captain, was looking for a reaction after the defeat by Yelverton seven days earlier and got what he wanted.
“It was a fantastic, all-round performance to get the 20 points and bounce back from last week’s loss, “ said Dart.
Cornwood totalled 212 for eight with Dart top scoring on 52. Adam Goodliffe (32), Chris Harris (39) and Harry Woolway (30) all chipped in.
No Sandford bowler took more than one wicket. However, there were three run-outs.
Ellie Bishop impressed with the bat for Sandford with 40, but that was as good as it got in an all-out total of 121.
There were three wickets each for Corn wood bowlers Woolway (3-33) and Josiah Caunter (3-26) and two for Matt Puttock (2-18).
Dart said while it may look a comfortable win, it took a lot of work to achieve it.
“It was tough going as Sandford bowled well and gave very little away,” said Dartr.
