New Delhi: The Union government on Friday told the Supreme Court that it was opposed to opening any new window for exchange of demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currencies with new banknotes introduced in 2016 as it would lead to endless uncertainties and backdoor entry of illegal monies.
Many petitioners requested a constitution bench of Justices S Abdul Nazeer, B R Gavai, A S Bopanna, V Ramasubramanian and B V Nagarathna for a one-time opportunity to exchange the demonetised notes, which for various reasons — ranging from foreign travel to death of spouse — could not be exchanged within the deadline.
