I have learned my lessons and have had all the fun times with my daughter. I have tried my best to be a friend to her. She doesn't have any qualms about being herself when she is with me. She can be opinionated, make a mess or express herself the way she wants.

This freedom has helped her develop into a confident child. I have built two-way communication while keeping gentle parenting in mind.

Here are a few lessons that I have learned from my own experiences with fatherhood:

1 Patience is key:

Children can be unpredictable and it's important to remain patient when they are learning and growing. They may not always understand or behave in the way that we expect. Giving them their time to learn helps. It doesn't mean that you need to tolerate inappropriate behavior, but it does mean that you are willing to give children the time and space they need in their formative years.

2 Flexibility:

Children's needs and schedules can change quickly and as parents, we need to be flexible and adaptable. Normalize changing decisions.

We learn along with our children. Exploring what works for our children together with them is what helps us understand what is best suited for our children rather than putting them through difficult tasks and situations which lack motivation and zeal.
