PILGRIMS AND BLUES' GLORY

The promoted duo were locked in a pulsating three-way battle for much of the campaign with Sheffield Wednesday, who have also bagged more than 90 points.

Barnsley and Bolton - who won the Papa Johns Trophy by thrashing Plymouth at Wembley will also join the Owls in the play-offs, while Derby and Peterborough are fighting for the final berth.

At the other end of the table, it proved a season to forget for Forest Green on their League One bow, while Accrington Stanley will join them in the fourth tier next term. Cambridge, Morecambe and MK Dons are still fighting for their lives.

July

In the opening round of fixtures, the game of the day saw Sheffield Wednesday play out a 3-3 thriller with Portsmouth.

Wycombe struck three times in the opening half an hour to defeat Burton 3-0, while Jonson Clarke-Harris showed he was in the mood for goals with a double as Peterborough won 3-2 at Cheltenham.

Forest Green made a winning start to life in the third tier with a 2-1 success at fellow promoted side Bristol Rovers.

Ipswich drew 1-1 at home against Bolton, while Plymouth edged out Barnsley 1-0. Derby began third tier life with a 1-0 home win against Oxford courtesy of Conor Hourihane.

August

Half a dozen games had been played by the end of August and things were beginning to take shape. Ipswich, Sheffield Wednesday Plymouth and were all in the top five, but it was Danny Cowley's Portsmouth who led the way.

Former Accrington striker Colby Bishop was proving an influential figure for Pompey, who dispatched Cambridge 4-1 in one of their August victories.
