G6 is just alright

Samsung's latest Odyssey gaming monitor is better than alright... which is just as well if it aims to make QD-OLED a mainstream option

■ At 27in the G6 OLED hits the sweet spot in terms of size. Setup is a breeze, with no tools required: everything just clips or twists into place. The stand is wonderfully sturdy – it refused to budge an inch unless we lifted the entire thing off the desk. The only grumble here is the basic cable management.

■ This monitor has the same slim, silvery styling as the pricier G8. While the frame is plastic, the stand is metal, which helps sell this as a premium product – but the silver trim can be a little distracting when playing gloomy games.

■ The 1440p resolution looks sharp and detailed from a typical desktop distance; and while it can’t match 4K for outright clarity, the G6 has wonderfully impactful colours, giving properly vibrant pictures when required but not overdoing it to the point that finer colour gradation is lost.
