This Morning host Alison Hammond has bagged herself a new telly family this autumn as she joins Noel Fielding as co-host on the hit C4 series The Great British Bake Off, alongside judges Paul Hollywood and Dame Prue Leith. And her infectious energy has brought a huge buzz in the famous white tent, with TV experts predicting it will be one of the best series yet. Here Alison, 48, Noel, 50, Paul, 57, and Prue, 83, chat about what we can expect from the new series, how Alison's gregarious personality has brought a lot of fun to filming and the Hollywood guests they had in the tent...
Congratulations on your new job, Alison!
Alison: I didn't realise how much I wanted it until I had to audition with Noel. I've watched it for so long. It's nerve-racking. The gravitas of that tent when you go in - it's a big deal. There was a moment where I was a bit star-struck. I was going, ‘OMG I am on Bake Off!’ I looked at Paul, Prue and Noel and went, ‘What am I doing here?!’ I then jumped on Paul, wrapped my legs around him and both of us toppled over!
Noel: We spent all day laughing. Alison’s energy is really infectious. She has got a big presence and it’s a joyful, fun zone that she’s created.
Prue: She’s such a life-enhancing ball of fire, she’s fantastic. She says anything – she has almost no filter – she hugs all the bakers. And she is always the same on-set, off-set, when she’s in the make-up chair… she’s just herself.
It sounds like you’ve had a lot of fun with this series?
