Picking up a box of blonde hair dye at the chemists, I smiled. ‘Hello old friend,’ I thought. After two years with dyed grey hair (it was trendy at the time, really!) it was time to go back to me. Not my natural brunette, but a gorgeous, bright peroxide blonde, and I couldn’t wait to unleash my fun side once more. Because I’m a firm believer in the old adage that blondes have more fun - in fact, I’m proof of it.
My love affair with blonde began when I was just 11 years old, in 1997. To liven up my mousey-brown locks, my mum let me have two blonde streaks in my fringe, just like my idol Geri Halliwell. Admiring my new ’do in the mirror before school, I felt like a pop star and I walked into the classroom that day with so much sass and confidence. After that, I progressed to a trendy blonde dip-dye at age 14, and my blonde-streak experiments continued during my teens. It’s incredible how much of an effect your hair can have on your confidence, but the more blonde I became, the more mine just seemed to grow.

'THAT'S NOT MY BABY'
Lying in the hospital bed, my husband Michael had tears of happiness in his eyes as he showed me a photo on his phone. 'Here she is,' he said proudly. 'This is our beautiful baby girl.'I stared at the photo and shook my head. 'No, that's not my baby,' I said. 'There must be a mistake.'It was August 2010 and I'd not long before had an emergency caesarean. I'd not had a chance to see Winnie when she arrived as she'd been whisked away for tests because she was nearly two months premature.
