If you're yearning for junk food, it might be a sign your body is out of balance

YOUR CRAVINGS DECODED

Hankering for a burger? Or maybe you can't stop thinking about chocolate. As many as 97 per cent of women yearn for certain foods, and it's rarely a salad or glass of water we're after. But it's important that you don't feel guilty about these cravings, says nutritionist Dr Marilyn Glenville.

"They're a biochemical urge that is almost impossible to control by mind power alone. Your body is demanding a particular type of food because it has a need for it," she says.

Our experts reveal the likely reasons for your cravings and how to satisfy them - without filling up on junk food.

FIZZY DRINKS

WHY?

You could be dehydrated. "The combination of a fizzy sensation with a sweet taste can be particularly pleasurable and stimulating, and it can seem to quench your thirst better than non-carbonated drinks," says nutritionist Cassandra Barns.

REPLACE WITH

Sparkling water at first, then gradually adjust to still water. If you find water boring, try infusing it with citrus, cucumber or berries. Aim for six to eight glasses a day (or more in hot weather or if you’ve been exercising).
