WALK yourself well

We often walk to get to a destination. We walk with purpose, our mind on other things - reflecting or ruminating on the past, or planning and plotting the future. But away from the worrying, there's a riot of natural activity taking place all around us. Tapping into that makes us better connected with nature and ourselves. By bringing our focus to the moment, we're treated to an exquisite tapestry we could very easily have missed.
Go on a smell walk
We've all heard the saying 'Stop and smell the roses'. Going on a smell walk is just that – it's making a concerted effort to place our attention on the scents we notice as we walk. Sniffing out the different aromas around us has a meditative effect, lowering our stress levels, reducing anxiety and creating a sense of calm. It's like pressing the mute button on the hustle and bustle of our mind.
So get outside and take a walk. It won't matter if it's long or short, through cityscapes, seascapes or a forest - you'll still feel the benefits if you seek out the different smells that you encounter and take a moment to ask yourself:
* What's that smell?
* Where's it coming from?
* Does it evoke any memories?
