The Men’s Folio February ’23 issue is the curtain raiser for the year. A year filled with endless possibilities, exciting projects and inspiring stories to share. First of which is the February ’23 issue themed Love, First, a play of the word lovers. In this issue, Men’s Folio explores communities where love is expressed in different ways.


Ah, February, the month of love. The Lunar New Year has just passed, spirits are high, and Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. And so we explore the theme of “Itulah Sayang”, which translates to “That Is Love”. The thing about love is that it has many facets, depending on where you look from. As such, we have our cover story of the month featuring Jes Jespipat, adorned with a selection of masterpieces by Grand Seiko, sharing about the ways love manifests itself. In terms of romance, we have our fashion shoot taken in the idyllic paddy fields of Malaysia. In a separate story, we also take a quick gander at timepieces that can be worn by both him and her.
As this is our first issue of the year, we would also like to take this chance to wish you a great 2025 ahead!

As the year draws to a close, we take on another empty slate with the renewed vigour of potential hopes and dreams. But before we get to that, we must first take the time to reflect, and this issue’s theme of “Coming Full Circle” allows us to explore exactly that.

We have Nadhir Nasar speaking about how he does not want to be the spectacle despite his fame. We have Amir Ahnaf, Aedy Ashraf, and Sky Iskandar exploring what it takes to grow up as a man, especially in Malaysia. We have timekeeping stories to remind us that time moves on, despite the events that pass us by, both large and small. We also ask the Men’s Folio Malaysia team what their favourite milestone of 2024 is.

Regardless of the time of the year, we should always be mindful that the present is all we have, and soon, we will come full circle once more.

Welcome to our “Art” issue, where we celebrate what moves the human soul. There is something about a haunting painting, a thrilling novel, or a chart-topping hit that can change the minds of millions in one fell swoop. This issue’s cover stories include Bible Wichapas Sumettikul and Son Heung-Min for Ralph Lauren Fragrance, who have their own ways of expressing their creative selves. Jes Jespipat Tilapornputt is no stranger to the arts as well, and you will find him in his Calvin Kleins as he talks about life in front of the camera. Speaking of cameras, we explore the world of photography through the lens of professionals and amateurs, which highlights the truth that we all have a story to tell. But art is not limited to the visual world. Athletes who seek their physical limits are in many ways expressing their true selves. And the members of the Tudor Pro Cycling Team show what it is like to live a life of discipline and uncertainty. Everything can be art if we know where to look. It is found in the creation of things — the making of something out of nothing. We might be celebrating all things artistic in this issue, but let us not forget that we are all works of art in our own right.

Greetings! It is great to finally be a part of Men’s Folio Malaysia, and I am excited for what is to come. This month’s issue carries the theme of “Memories,” and while the title’s 27 years in the industry have undoubtedly garnered a long list of fond moments to look back on, it is the new memories that I am excited to build with the team. For this issue, you will find Fourth Nattawat on the cover — dressed in Tommy Hilfiger — discussing what it is like to be in the limelight. Another lovely project for this month involves Blue Pongtiwat and Jaeger-LeCoultre, marrying both star power and stellar watchmaking in one interesting story about what time means to the Thai celebrity. Last but not least on the celebrity front is Bright Vachirawit — dressed in Calvin Klein — speaking about his plans for the future. Our Malaysian feature explores the coming together of content creators from different generations. Here, they are quick to point out how the other group had it easy but learn
that they might not be so different after all. Malaysia is home to many interesting personalities, even in a niche community of watch collectors. We asked them which watches drew them into the hobby, and the answers might surprise you. We hope you enjoy this issue as much as we enjoyed putting it together!

We also spotlight MidLyfe, a Gen Z Malaysian music group making waves with their fresh sound. Dreams are the seeds of our deepest desires, planted in the fertile soil of our imagination. Yet, to see these dreams blossom into reality requires more than mere
wishful thinking — it demands unwavering determination and boundless passion. Leading this issue is our cover star — Jeff Satur — whose journey from aspiring artiste to celebrated figure shows the power of perseverance and passion.

It would be too easy to glint the term “high shine” for its surface-level brilliance.
That obvious glow that can be spotted from a mile away. That lustrous radiance
so bright it seems to sparkle from within. Think pavé diamond bracelets that blind
— or flashy ornaments that invite a second look — but continually draw gazes. The
term — and the theme for Men’s Folio Malaysia’s May '24 issue — has always found
itself being synonymous with that flashy sort of allure.

For instance, the idea of flamboyance can transcend what is customarily glanced
upon first viewing. John Galliano, Alexander McQueen and Pierpaolo Piccioli
might be exemplars of “outré” fashion, but beyond the outlandish flourishes lie an
understanding of simplicity and a respect for it. Designers have always been drawn
to the contrast between hard and soft, light and dark, masculine and feminine, but
this duality should not be interpreted based on superficial dichotomies. Duality
plays an even more crucial role in how fashion is interpreted on a more personal
scale, like how "Quiet Luxury" was antithetical to "Personal Style" — the common
denominator between these two explosive trends in the past year is an individualistic allegiance to either, if not both — but who said it has to be mutually exclusive?

This concept of an "ultranova" encapsulates those transformative instances where fashion transcends mere clothing to become a cultural force.

There are so much the Men's Folio team holds close to our hearts this year, and
our gratitudes are overflowing as the year comes to a close. The enthusiastic
support from encouraging readers and the talented contributions from
selfless collaborators have made every step of our journey profoundly meaningful.
The challenges we have navigated have become stepping stones to learn and grow,
and we're genuinely grateful for them.

There is always room to be different — to act upon our greatest desires, slip into the uncomfortable, and perhaps ignore the rules just for once. Wise words we applied for this November '23 issue — made up of ideas we once scraped, initially removed by the team for fear that not many would understand the premise. Some of them were centred around alternative personalities in Malaysia, while others sought to grapple a different approach to how we view local and international fashion. I used to believe the time was not yet right for Men’s Folio Malaysia to be seen as anything but quintessentially classic. After all, its memory amongst Malaysians embraces subtle fashion nuance and a certain maturity.

There's something quite intriguing about us humans – we have this knack for seeing ordinary things through a human lens. It's like we discover emotions in animals, personalities in inanimate objects, and even intentions in algorithms. It speaks to our fundamental need for connection and our boundless imaginations.

But, here's the twist: sometimes, our tendency to humanise the non-human can lead us down some puzzling paths. We often wish our technology could be just like us, seeking companionship in chatbots, desiring empathy from AI, and even granting our gadgets their own unique personalities. Yet, as we navigate this world increasingly driven by technology, we must proceed with care. Let's cherish our vivid imaginations while never forgetting the boundary that separates us from the machines.

Fashion has always been intrigued by duality. The idea that two seemingly conflicting elements can converge to create something entirely new has always been its sheer driving force. Covering all of its bases through design and styling, it is a theme that transcends all aspects of dress that has played a significant role in its evolution.

The universe began with a bang, not any ordinary one but a big one.
Scientists theorised it as the Big Bang — a hot, dense and infinitely
small point, known as a singularity, rapidly expanded in a massive
explosion approximately 13.8 billion years ago. This expansion caused
the universe to cool and allowed matter and energy to form, eventually
forming galaxies, stars and planets.

In many ways, how things are today mirrors the Big Bang. Societies,
institutions and beliefs began as a theory, a concentration of ideas, and
even hopes and dreams before being brought to life through action and
over time. Men's Folio March 2023 issue takes the theme of Big Bang as
well, firstly as an ode to the Men's Folio March large format tradition. The
issue also explores changing narratives around the fashion industry,
starting with a concentration of ideas and concepts from the Men's
Folio team.

Speaking of looking to the past for growth in time to come, we picked the brain of classic car enthusiast TM Chin, son of JP Chin and JPM’s COO, in an extremely informative interview (p090). Additionally, we have included
a timepiece editorial (p028) and fashion spreads (p046) that interpret the concept of future from a creative point of view.

This month, SonaOne graced our cover wearing the OMEGA Speedmaster ‘57 Co-Axial Master Chronometer Chronograph 40.5 MM watch. "The way I approach the creative process of writing music, the way that I dress, the messages and stories that I touch on are all an extension of who I am, and if you spend enough time listening to my works, you’d have a good sense of the person I am, as well as the journey I took to get here," he said during the photo shoot.

“Fashion will always be one of the most important things in my personal and professional life. I love fashion for as long as I can remember. Currently, I’m obsessed with oversized pieces and striking colours. My favourite brands at the moment are Onitsuka Tiger, Prada, Dior, Fendi, Versace, Gucci, Tom Ford, Louis Vuitton, Bonia, Rizman Ruzaini and Kitwoo,” said Hael. Donned head to toe in items from Onitsuka Tiger’s Autumn/Winter 2022 collection.

Themed “Young Heroes”, we not only restlessly cast around for individuals, but also brands that are bold and venturesome. On the cover, we have raising Malaysian stars Meerqeen and Zhen Ning, with Montblanc 1858 GMT Automatic Date and Montblanc Extreme 3.0 thin document case. “Despite [our] different backgrounds, languages and religions, we respect each another as equal; that’s easier said than done,” said Meerqeen in the interview. “I’m proud to be a Malaysian because there’s a multitude of rich cultures that connects everyone. And then, of course, there’s the wide range of local cuisines that guarantee to tickle the taste buds!” Zhen Ning added.

Actor Hisyam Hamid graced our cover this month wearing the new Rado Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Diver watch. When asked what does he take pride in the most, Hisyam replied: “Discipline and professionalism. Since day one, I’ve been telling myself that whenever I work with a new production house, I have to make them feel that, ‘Hey, it was easy to work with Hisyam’. I also make it a point to tell myself that others may beat me in terms of acting or popularity but I will never let them beat me when it comes to having good self-discipline,” he said.

a blessing to find out you’ve won something, and in this case, I was completely overwhelmed and flattered,” he says, when asked to sum up
