Around the globe, we&rsquo;re building at an unprecedented rate, and nature is having trouble keeping up. Studio Marco Vermeulen offered a new approach to building at the Dutch Design Week this year, with Biobasecamp - a sustainable, Allwood pavilion that eschews use of concrete and steel and instead, opts for reusable timber and old poplar trunks. The pavilion is the studio&rsquo;s way of opening up future possibilities of building only with trees.<img src="https://magarticles.magzter.com/articles/573/389594/5de7a7cab6c81/1575462839423.jpg"" owidth=1687 oheight=1421" style="height:1421px; width:1687px" />The deck is built of large-sized, removable slats made of cross-layer glued wood that can be reused as flooring in homes. Old Brabant poplars, originally grown to produce clogs and matches, were replanted from a motorway, where they were at a risk of falling over because of their age, and used as pillars holding up the pavilion.<img src="https://magarticles.magzter.com/articles/573/389594/5de7a7cab6c81/1575462839841.jpg"" owidth=2023 oheight=1318" style="height:1318px; width:2023px" />Amongst the trees below the deck, the studio has laid out an exhibition with maps, objects and projects detailing the mission, besides the relevance of wood and forestry in Dutch culture.
