EOS India Focuses on Melt Pool Monitoring Systems
Auto Components India|June 2017

EOS India, a subsidiary of the Germany-based EOS GmbH, manufacturer of 3D printers, has made industrial 3D printing realistic and viable. Hitherto 3D printing in aerospace was limited to structural and static components. In today’s scenario the additive manufacturing has enterering the rotary component lines with the help of melt pool monitoring systems.

EOS India Focuses on Melt Pool Monitoring Systems

Investments are going on in monitoring systems and photo diodes to capture the data through which melt pool monitoring systems values could be decipher. It should hint how the laser hits the product and in line with that how the structure of the powder gets melted. The value is recorded with the help of monitoring systems and layer by layer the process is captured and the melt pool monitoring systems record the values.

The company also steps forward in the lane and check whether it can do quality certification. It has optical tomography in the machine itself. Powder development is an ongoing process for the last 10 years but the biggest investment is how to handle the measurement monitoring process inside the machines. This in turn can be integrated into the QMS system and take it forward for the certification.

Prakasam Anand, Country Head, EOS India said, “Our main focus is on industrialising this technology. The prevailing scenario is that communication is not happening between CNC and 3D printing machines. Now our people are working on reference calibrations through which all CNCs can be 3D printed and vice versa. This is what outlines industry 4.0 and the speed of the machine is increased from one laser to 2, 3 and 8 lasers, respectively. The productivity will in turn get increased. On the other hand the melt pool monitoring system acts as a database for various calibration needs.”
