Kazi Industries, manufacturer of engine and wing components for aerospace industry, is in talks with the US-based Twigg Aerospace for a joint venture. “We have initiated talks with Twigg Aerospace and negotiation is going on for a possible joint venture. This is likely to be formed by 2018. When the JV gets realised, we will have the upper hand in terms of raw materials, technology and machines. This is going to complement our manufacturing,” said Feeroz H Fazi, CEO, Kazi Industries.
The aerospace industry in India is depending on the European market for the raw materials. Even the government companies like HAL import raw materials from its Russian Collaborator. Very few raw materials may be sourced within the country. The new joint venture would think of raw material manufacturing. Unless, the country is able to give raw materials at a cheaper rate, it would be difficult to compete with the international market, he said. “If we enter into JV with the US based company the raw material challenge could be mitigated to an extent. Raw material manufacturing will take 3-4 years, as a lot of testing has to be done, and an investment of over Rs 1 lakh crore has to be made. Only the Government can take the initiative in this regard but the manufacturing has to be taken place for the global market. As there are provisions available for raw material manufacturing in India, it is feasible to go ahead. We are 30-40 years behind the technology. This Joint Venture drives us to imbibe the current manufacturing practices and we can source the raw materials from our US counterpart where the same is sourced now from different places. The software support will also be provided by the company to us,” Fazi said.
